Frequently Asked Questions about the Antique Guide

We have done our best to document the different areas of Travelers Antique Guide but we know that some questions will come up from time to time. This FAQ area is meant to show most of the questions that are asked, well, frequently...

For further help there are many videos and slideshows in the User demos area.

No, we encourage you to join and participate in as many interest groups that you would like.

Sure you can, think of it as a social gathering with conversations all around. Participate only in the discussions that you choose.

The RSVP tool is meant to invite your friends to join you at a particular event that we have listed.

As a scenario, let's say that you see an antique show in your area and you think that 3 of your friends or colleagues would like to join you. All you have to do is click on the RSVP tab at the top of the listed event or show, and then click the "Create RSVP" link. So that you can track your RSVPs you will assign it a name and then type in the message that you want to send to the people that you will invite. You have options to prevent attendees from seeing who else is on the list, allowing attendees to send messages to the people invited to your RSVP & allowing attendees to invite more people to the show or event. Once you choose these options you will be able to choose who you want to invite, you choose to just enter email addresses or may choose to invite by user name or from your buddy list. After you send your invitation(s) your invitees will receive a message with all of the details of the event along with your message and a link to notify you if the will accept your invitation. You will then be able to track your RSVPs, who has accepted and who has not.

Yes, we accept suggestions for events at this link.

Unless you have specified in your user settings, under your account tools, that you would like your name and or email published for general access, your name will not be public. We require very little information for you to become a user on our site. At the time of this message we only require your name (we don't require your last name) and your email address (the email is only required so that we may initially authenticate you and to send you notifications that you have requested). We absolutely will not share or sell any of the personal information that you have provided to us.

The audience that the form is requesting is one or more of the interest groups that you belong to. For example, if you want to sell a bakelite radio and you belong to the Bakelite and Arizona interest groups, you could choose to post this classified ad in either or both of the "audience" groups.

Currently the classifieds area is restricted to interest groups. We are considering making it a public area and will make an announcement when that happens.

Absolutely not! Travelers Antique Guide is supported by it's advertisers and the Antique Dealers on our site. As long as you are patronizing our Antique Dealers and advertisers you are helping!

It's always helpful to mention to our sponsors that you found them here!

TAG points are a point system that we have implemented for competitions that we plan on having in the near future. You'll be able to earn TAG points by making posts and using other areas of the web site. Stay tuned for more details.

Yes, if you receive a private message to your inbox from someone that you would rather not hear from you can choose to ignore that person by choosing the "block user" link from the message. We will quickly become aware of anyone sending spam messages through our messaging system and these users will be deleted.

The picture for your account can be changed in the avatar section of your account tools. Just go to your account page and click on the edit tab. Scroll down to the avatar section and choose from one of the many avatars available.

Not at this time. We are considering this and, if this feature becomes available we will make an announcement.

My watched items, under the "My Account Tools" menu tracks and optionally notifies you of new activity on posts that you find interesting in interest groups or user's blogs. You can always access your watched items at the "My Watched items" link under your "My Account tools" menu.

Some people wonder if site notes are strictly used in relation to the content pages of Travelers Antique Guide. There are 2 areas of the site notes, the personal notes and the content notes. An example of a content note would be if you were reading an interest group topic and decided that you wanted to make a note to yourself about that topic or a user posting under that topic. You could do so directly from that topic and those notes would be kept in your content notes and could always be referenced from that topic area. Personal notes are notes that you may want to keep regarding some other topic or site detail (such as an idea that you had on how to use the site) but is not necessarily related to specific content. These notes are kept in the personal notes section of my site notes. You can always access your site notes at the "My Site notes" link under your "My Account tools" menu.

Be sure to visit your account page and click on the edit tab. Near the bottom there are 2 fields, blog title and blog description, when these fields are completed the title and description will always show up at the top of your blog.
